How do you get to Anakao?
By sea. The village has no usable road: you reach Anakao by boat from Toliara beach — a fast launch, or a motorised pirogue — in about an hour depending on the craft. The crossing is arranged with a local operator, subject to weather and tide.
What is there to see at Anakao?
A long Vezo beach and, offshore, the island of Nosy Ve — a low islet known for its birds and its reef flat. What a day looks like depends on the trips offered by the village’s fishers and lodgings.
When can you come?
Year-round. From April to October the sea is steadiest for the crossing to Nosy Ve; from November to March it is hotter and the crossing is set day by day depending on the wind. Anakao can be visited in any season.
