Getting to Toliara: plane or road

International travellers generally transit through Antananarivo, whatever their continent of departure. France Diplomatie mentions a direct Paris–Antananarivo service running several times a week, among other international connections. Ivato airport publishes international and domestic flight information.

From Antananarivo, the first option is the domestic flight: Madagascar Airlines links Toliara with Antananarivo and Fort-Dauphin. Timetables and fares are checked with the airline; a domestic flight can change, and France Diplomatie recommends reconfirming it before departure.

The second option is the road, along the RN7: a long drive, done in daylight, with a suitable vehicle and a driver who knows the route. France Diplomatie advises against night travel outside towns in the south.

How to choose: flying shortens the trip and goes straight to the point. The road opens up stops — Antsirabe, Fianarantsoa, Isalo — and suits a stay that begins on the way down to the south.
