When to visit the south-west

Around Toliara the climate is semi-arid: this is one of the driest and sunniest parts of Madagascar, and the region can be visited year-round. The lagoon, the spiny forest and the Vezo villages are there whatever the season.

From April to October, the air is dry, the days hot and sunny; in July and August, the mornings and evenings are cool. The sea is calm and the tracks at their best: this is the easiest season to string several sites together.

From November to March, it is hotter and late-afternoon showers turn the landscapes green. A few inland tracks then call for a 4×4, and cyclones can reach Madagascar, mostly via the east coast.
